The saviour of the Jews, historian, first to collect data about Teofilius Matulionis. In 1926, J. Stakauskas was ordained a priest. In 1957, after buying a house in Žasliai (Vilniaus str. 64), he moved here for permanent residence, became an altarista of Žasliai Church. When he was a priest of Gelvonai, he was followed by the KGB but avoided repression. In 1959-1970, he was a professor at Kaunas Priestly Seminary (taught church history, Russian and German languages) and, for a time, was a priest in Krivonys.
